Protect 40 km of beaches by funding sea turtle conservation, youth education & ecosystem restoration in Costa Rica (Coming Soon)

By Verdi Azul
Protect 40 km of sea turtle nesting beaches while empowering youth and restoring Costa Rica’s coastal ecosystems.

About This Project

🐢 Introduction to the Metaproblem

Protecting our oceans and coastal ecosystems is more urgent than ever.
Sea turtles—ancient, keystone species—are vanishing due to habitat loss, plastic pollution, poaching, and climate change. Their decline reflects a deeper, systemic failure: the lack of effective marine conservation, environmental education, and sustainable community development.

🌎 Core Problem in the Bioregion

Costa Rica’s Pacific coast is facing critical environmental threats.
Unsustainable development, pollution, and poaching are degrading fragile coastal ecosystems. The local tradition of consuming sea turtle eggs further threatens their survival. At the same time, plastic waste and poor waste management compound the issue—damaging both biodiversity and the local economy, which relies heavily on ecotourism.

🌱 Proposed Solution

A community-led conservation model that protects turtles and empowers people.
VerdiazulCR is expanding protection from 5 km to 40 km of nesting beaches over the next two years. This includes:

  • 🛡️ Expanding beach patrols to prevent poaching and protect nests
  • 🐣 Ensuring the release of over 25,000 sea turtle hatchlings per year
  • 👩‍🔬 Training young conservationists from Costa Rica and over 40 countries
  • 🌿 Restoring coastal habitats through reforestation
  • 🚯 Promoting waste management to reduce plastic pollution
  • 🧭 Supporting sustainable ecotourism to fund conservation and create local jobs

By integrating science, education, and community action, this initiative ensures long-term protection for marine life and the people who depend on it.

✨ What Makes it Unique

This is more than a wildlife project—it's a regenerative movement.
VerdiazulCR stands out for its holistic approach, combining:

  • Scientific marine conservation
  • Youth empowerment and environmental education
  • Community-led ecotourism and waste management

Unlike isolated conservation efforts, this initiative creates a living ecosystem of impact that is co-created with locals and future leaders. It not only safeguards biodiversity—it builds a resilient, regenerative coastal culture.

📊 Impact Metrics & Measurement

📍 Our Goals:

  • 🏖️ 40 km of nesting beaches protected through active monitoring and conservation patrols
  • 🐢 50,000+ hatchlings released per year, increasing survival rates of endangered sea turtles
  • 👩‍🏫 4 young conservationists trained and employed annually to lead future marine protection
  • 🧒 30 youth engaged annually in hands-on environmental education and conservation activities
  • 🌳 2,000 native trees planted over two years to restore and stabilize coastal ecosystems
  • ♻️ 2,000 kg of plastic waste removed each year through beach clean-ups and waste management
  • 🌺 24 ecotourism experiences and workshops hosted annually to promote sustainable tourism and community involvement

Impact is measured through verified data collection on beach patrols, hatchling counts, waste removed, trees planted, and participants trained and engaged.

💛 Why People Should Donate

Because we’re running out of time.
Sea turtle nesting beaches are disappearing fast. Without urgent support, poaching and habitat loss will continue unchecked.

Your donation will:

  1. 🛡️ Protect 40 km of coastline
  2. 🐢 Save 25,000+ sea turtles each year
  3. 👩‍🏫 Train the next generation of ocean defenders
  4. 🌍 Promote sustainable, community-led ecotourism
  5. ♻️ Support ecosystem restoration and plastic reduction

🔥 Call to Action

The time to act is now.
Be part of a global movement to protect sea turtles, restore coastal ecosystems, and empower the next generation of conservation leaders.

👉 Donate now to make a lasting difference.
Together, we can ensure a thriving future for both nature and humanity.
